Flashing landed her first Grade One victory when taking out the Test Stakes over seven furlongs on dirt at Saratoga on August 8. No match for Rachel Alexandra when they meet last time Flashing had little trouble winning in the absence of the American champion. Sitting in fourth on the back stretch and stalking the pace, Richard Migliore moved his mount to third on the home turn and produced a powerful late run to wear down Pretty Prolific and the well backed favourite Cat Moves-a Grade One winner in her most recent start-to score by a length and a half. Flashing was disappointing in her next race, a Grade Two event at Keeneland on October 24. Despite breaking well and being settled in third place Flashing dropped out of contention in the straight.
Flashing recorded her second victory of 2009 at the top level with a runaway success in the Grade One Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct, New York on November 28. Following two below par efforts on artificial tracks Flashing was much happier on her favoured dirt surface and after a good start was soon in the lead under Richard Migliore dictating the pace. Two lengths clear entering the straight Flashing pulled away from her rivals to win by more than four lengths, covering the nine furlongs in 1m.50.94s.
Provided Godolphin with their 159th G1 success when successful in the G1 Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct on 28 November 2009.
