Buzzword, running in his fourth European Classic of the season made history by becoming the first foreign-trained horse to win the Group One Deutsches Derby in Hamburg, Germany on July 18. Drawn well in barrier seven in a field of 20, Royston Ffrench made the most of his good starting position and had Buzzword handy to the leaders in fifth spot where he travelled well throughout. Improving round the home turn, his response was immediate when Ffrench asked him to quicken at the furlong marker. He soon had the 141st Classic in safe keeping as he ran on well to the line, holding the locally-trained favourite Zazou by a length and a quarter, covering the 12 furlongs in 2.29.51s.
