Seventh Street landed her first Grade One event for Godolphin following her convincing victory in the Go For Wand Handicap at Saratoga on August 2. Previously the winner of the Grade One Apple Blossom Handicap when trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Seventh Street was having just her second start since being transferred to Godolphin earlier this year. As usual Rajiv Maragh had the ride and they broke well from gate one to get a lead on their five rivals in the nine furlong race run on a sloppy dirt track. Soon challenged for the lead Maragh was content to sit on the outside in second place as Color Me Up set solid fractions in front. Rounding the home turn widest of all, allowing Spritely to slip through on the rail and take the lead by two lengths, Seventh Street rallied in game fashion down the straight to regain the lead for the first time since the start. She held her advantage to the line to win by a length and a quarter from race favourite Miss Isella who grabbed second spot on the line. Also a winner at Grade Two level, Seventh Street was recording her fifth win from eight career starts.
Despite a determined effort Seventh Street could not hold the late challenge of Swift Temper when second in the Grade One Ruffian Handicap at Belmont Park on September 12. Racing on a sloppy track Seventh Street sat on the heels of the leader as a strong pace was set over the extended mile. Taking over at the top of the stretch Seventh Street was brave putting over eight lengths between herself and the third horse but she could not match the finishing kick of the winner who crossed the line in 1m.40.59s.
Seventh Street finished her season on a disappointing note when beating just one runner home in the 2009 Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Santa Anita on November 6. Perfectly placed throughout the race she held every chance at the top of the straight but failed to quicken on the Pro-Ride track, her first attempt on a synthetic surface.
Seventh Street was retired to the paddocks at the end of the 2009 racing season.
