Folk Opera’s season reached new heights following her success in the E.P.Taylor Stakes at Woodbine in Canada, her first victory at Grade One level. A winner of the Group Two Prix Jean Romanet in Deauville in August, Folk Opera benefitted from a masterful ride from Frankie Dettori in Woodbine who dictated affairs from the start of the ten furlong event. Setting slow fractions for the first six furlongs he gradually stepped up the tempo as they approached the home turn and had enough in reserve to hold off the challenge from Callwood Dancer to win by a length and three quarters.
Folk Opera may have run her last race following her fifth place behind Forever Together in the Breeders’ Cup Fillies & Mare Turf over 10 furlongs at Santa Anita Park on October 24. Folk Opera took up her usual front running role in the Grade One event but was unable to sustain her effort around the home turn and faded in the straight to be beaten a little less than five lengths.
Folk Opera was retired to the paddocks in late 2008.
